Estonian Assyriological Society was founded on 2. September, 1998. Most of the founding members of the Society have attended or attend lectures on Sumerian and Akkadian languages, Ancient Near Eastern archaeology and history of religion offered by prof. Thomas R. Kämmerer (Münster, Germany) at the University of Tartu.
