Morgensterni Seltsi ja Tartu Ülikooli klassikalise filoloogia osakonna ühisüritusena toimub kolmapäeval, 4. mail 2022 kell 18.00 Tartus Liivi tn 4-103 ruumis vestlusring, milles Helsinki ülikooli doktorant Minna Vesa tutvustab oma uurimisprojekti: “Abielu ja perekonnaelu teooria ja praktika kajastamine Turu akadeemias ja seda ümbritsevas kogukonnas 17. sajandil.”

Theory and practise of marriage and family at the Academy of Turku and its surrounding community at the 17th century

Minna Vesa’s doctoral thesis addresses the interaction between the Early Modern Academy of Turku and the social community which surrounded it. The study is twofold: First, Vesa concentrates on the theoretical conceptions of family and marriage at the Academy, mainly by analysing the dissertations. Secondly, she studies the everyday life of the professors and their families, using as an example the correspondence of the Gyldenstolpes, a family with four professors at the Academy. Combining these two viewpoints she then studies what kind of relation there was between the Academy as an institution and the social community around it.
