Teema: Which Renaissance? About a controversial word

Lühitutvustus: In historiography, as well as in school textbooks or in the mainstream media, the word Renaissance is used casually, becoming a kind of all-encompassing word. But are we sure that this famous word is good enough to define all the cultural, intellectual and artistic movements of the early modern age? Does it apply, to the same extent, to any geographical and social context? This paper aims to try to answer these questions, using Italian and generally European case studies to analyse this ‘all-encompassing’ word.
